I’ve (Finally) Got My iPod Touch
Exactly 2 weeks. That’s how long I waited to get my replacement iPod Touch from Machines. That’s 14 days too long, for something that could have been done in 5 minutes.
I got the call on Wednesday informing me that my iPod Touch is ready for collection. From none other than Rico the Technician. He certainly has a sense of irony. Best of all, when I went to collect it, Rico wasn’t the least bit apologetic about causing me a shitload of inconvenience and having me wait 2 weeks as a direct result of his major-league fuck-up. Now THAT’S professionalism.

My scant consolation is that the replacement unit is working fine so far, although I have my doubts about it being brand new because the battery had an almost full charge when I first turned it on, and that’s usually a clue that it’s a refurb (they take the old innards and slap on a new outer shell and battery). As far as I know, there’s no way to tell a refurb from a brand new one: it’s Apple’s dirty little secret. Considering that I paid for a brand new iPod Touch, I feel I got screwed by Machines with this deal.
Way to repay my loyalty, Machines.
Have I been too nice about this whole thing?

Hi Kurt, Kenny is not the guy to talk to, he handles corporate and education. For various reasons I cannot reveal my real name [mysterious, ha...].
Here’s what you do. Speak to the actual outlet manager of KLCC shop. You are entitled to on-the-spot, brand-new iPod Touch still fresh in box. This is if your iPod Touch is DOA, within 7 days, which it clearly was. Please do pursue the matter until you get your brand-new iPod Touch.
That is, not a unit handed back to you, but a fresh-unmolested-in-original Apple box new one. The DOA policy is not to give you back refurb, you get new box on the spot.
[Thanks for the tip, mystery reader! I got a loose warranty unit replacement, but it works fine so I didn't want to kick up too much of a fuss because June from Marketing picked up the ball and was very helpful in solving the problem, which I appreciated. --Kurt]

hey just thought you should know, when I called Ipod about my battery problems. They told me that if you were to send in your Ipod when the charge will not hold for more than 6 hours at a time, then for only 59 dollars and an extra 12 dollars shipping and handle they replace your Ipod compleatly with a brandnew one of your type of Ipod! I have done it twice! Its really awesome.. But if it is somthing that has to do with the hardware it is 100 dollars to replace.
[Yeah, I heard that when you send an iPod in for a battery replacement you actually get back a brand new refurb of the same model, which is sweet. --Kurt]
