Zai Jian

The time has finally come for me to say goodbye to Beijing, a delightful city that I’ve grown to love despite my initial reservations, which were mostly toilet hygiene related. While I still throw toilet paper into the toilet bowl with total impunity, I’ll miss the days here of carefree projectile spitting and spectacular bicycle collisions, not to mention black boogers and frostbite. In fact, I’ll save a few chunks of actual black booger for interested parties to appreciate personally, although chances it will pass airport security are extremely slim due to its WMD status, right up there with breastmilk.

I leave early tomorrow morning. I’ve got a whole bunch of Beijing posts here I didn’t have the time to finish — the trip to the zoo (PANDAS!!), more engrish sightings, graduation dinner — which I’ll save for when I get back. Meanwhile, I have to figure out how to stuff 2 square hectares of personal belongings into 1×1.5 metres of luggage space.

    Hey, hi

Your blog is fascinating…(trying to give good impression)
Anyway, i was thinking of going to Beijing to learn Mandarin too (I speak and understand absolutely zero Mandarin at this moment).
So was just wondering how you got to sign up that interesting program you enrolled in. And another small detail: how much did it cost to study and live there for a short course?

    Thanks a million..
    Waiting for your precious advice.

Hi Celine, thanks for visiting! Here, have a coffee and make yourself comfortable.

To enroll, just visit BLCU’s website and download the application form, fill it in and fax it back to them together with the relevant documents and the TT receipt for the application fee. They’ll send you a package confirming your enrollment in about 2 weeks together with a visa application form.

Fees, accommodation, food, and — this is very important — shopping included, it’s about RM8-10k excluding airfare for the entire 3 months. The best time to go is the September intake, unless sandstorms and frostbite totally excite you.

Hope this helps — email me if you need any more info.
